Tips for the maintenance and care of the upholstery of the boat

In the following article you will find different tips that will allow you to take care of the upholstery of the boat to keep it in optimal conditions for longer.

Soak fabric in a solution of 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water. Use a sponge or a soft bristle brush as necessary. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Air dry.

Marine grade vinyls, for example, are developed for use in a marine environment as upholstery on boats, awnings, and even outdoor furniture. These vinyls are made to be durable, resistant to abrasion and mildew, and colorfast.

While reupholstering your boat seats is cheaper than buying new, it can still be expensive. It will likely cost between $100 to $300 to reupholster a cushion and up to $500 for a captain’s chair. On average, you can expect to pay $80 per hour in boat upholstery repair costs.

The sun, wet leaves, pollen, sun tan lotion and many other things can all produce yellow stains on your boat vinyl. Unfortunately popular whitening agents like bleach and baking soda cannot be used because they will dry out and damage the vinyl.

Wipe down your seats after use. Mold and mildew form from moisture, so wipe down those seats after you’ve had a day on the water, maintain your boat while it’s in storage, purchase mildew-resistant seat material.
